To become a member of the Sylvania Area Federal Credit Union all you are required to do is open a share (savings) account. Your share account must maintain a minimum balance of five dollars at all times. The five dollars is your share or part ownership into the credit union. As long as you maintain the five dollar minimum you have the full rights to all member services including your vote at our Annual Meeting to elect your Board of Directors. Opening an account is so easy; all you need is your photo ID, social security number and five dollars.

An Average Daily Balance of $500.00 must be maintained in order to earn interest. A minimum balance of $250.00 must be maintained to prevent a $5.00 monthly minimum fee. All members must open a Draft (Checking) Account if they want a the use of a debit card.

By putting your money into a share certificate your funds will earn a higher interest rate than if only saved in your regular share account. A Share Certificate requires members to keep their funds in the account for a specified period of time, referred to the term of the account. Share certificates may be withdrawn on the maturity date of the account. If the member wants to withdraw funds before the maturity date, the credit union usually assesses a penalty.
